I’m deeply honored that Simple Song, written in memory of Frederick Hemke, receives its first commercial recording on Joshua Heaney’s “Alchemy”. The work was made available online for all saxophonists touched by Hemke’s legacy to perform in his memory. A reviewer described Simple Song as “almost as a wake, remembering one lost through use of a straightforward, haunting remembrance.” The album as a whole has been praised for its “elegant precision, resonance, and introspection,” making it a deeply fitting home for this tribute.
