Presenting the making of “In Sympathy” on the Fermilab Colloquium

I’ve been invited to present the making of “In Sympathy” as part of Fermilab’s Colloquium series, a forum regularly attended by physicists, researchers, and science-minded members of the public. The Colloquium offers a rare window into new work at the intersection of art and science and is a fixture of Fermilab’s public outreach. During our presentation, my collaborators Todd Johnson, Brad Robin, and I used a video of the premiere performance to trigger the resonating glass array, demonstrating how the music itself activates sympathetic vibrations in real time. Together, we explored how this system draws parallels between acoustic resonance and the physical principles that govern the subatomic world. This appearance underscores how In Sympathy contributes to Fermilab’s cultural life, engaging the Lab’s community with creative work that resonates with its core mission.
